The Nissan Patrol has long been a very popular vehicle to drive around. They can be purchased in diesels and petrols, as well as utes and full body vehicles. The older Patrols are by far the best in my opinion (the GQ models) as they have incredibly strong engines and drive lines. You can drive these vehicles as hard as you want for days on end and you struggle to break anything. Of course, as soon as you start fitting lift kits, larger tires and diff locks the story differs a bit, but they are probably the strongest vehicle that you can get on the market.

The newer patrols are also good cars, although they have had some serious issues with the 3 litre diesel engine. With a few modifications these cars are one of the more capable four wheel drives on the market. If you fit the right Nissan modifications and suspension lifts then they will go anywhere. It comes down to good planning of your modifications and buying the items at the right price.

If you are going to get a GU ute, try to make sure that it has coil springs at the back. These leave the standard leaf springs for dead! Overall these are great cars, and the Toyota Land Cruiser is about the only other vehicle which is even comparable. Both have their own individual advantages and disadvantages, and both are good cars. If you get a Nissan Patrol though, check for regular services and for any cracks underneath the vehicle.
